Unlike rugs used around other areas of the home, there are a few specific requirements needed when it comes to kitchen rugs. A kitchen rug not only has to look great and fit with your kitchen décor, but it should also be washable and able to stand up to a lot of abuse, especially in a busy kitchen.
There are several places where a rug is appropriate to place. For example, it is often very helpful to place one near the dishwashing and dryer area as it is ideal for soaking up any spilled water. In fact, anywhere that there is a danger of water spills staying on the kitchen floor would benefit from having a rug laid down as water on the floor can cause accidents and falls.
Kitchen area rugs can also be a great addition to any kitchen. Frequently placed under small dining tables or in the middle section of a kitchen, they can be very helpful at pulling together the overall décor, providing a main focal point that sets the accent for the entire kitchen. Similarly, small accent rugs thrown on the floor at various places around your kitchen such as in front of the refrigerator and at the main door can do likewise.
To give an old country feel to your kitchen you should look at the range of rooster kitchen rugs available. Some are designed as larger area rugs while others are smaller and designed as small throw rugs. If the design is intricate, you may find they look better when placed next to items that are more plain looking, such as wooden cabinets or underneath a kitchen table.
Look for washable kitchen rugs. Invariably, any rugs placed on the floor will be likely to become soiled and have foods or juices spilled on them. This makes it imperative that you are able to wash the rug whenever possible. Of course, this may not be the case with larger kitchen accent rugs but it should definitely be a consideration when buying smaller throw rugs, which are placed at various spots around a kitchen.
Another tip when buying floor rugs for the kitchen is to buy two or three of the same rug. That way, when one is being laundered you will have another that can take its place without leaving any spot in your kitchen looking bare. It will also help your rugs to last longer as the wear and tear is spread out between several rugs.
